It looks like Australia is poised to reach the target vaccination milestone of 80 percent doubled dosed for people over the age of 16. According to ABC, Prime Minister Scott Morrison confirms that Australia will reach its 80 percent double vaccination target sometime today which is a milestone in Australia’s reopening plan.
“There’s another breakthrough that we’re going to go through today, and that is 80 percent of Australians aged over 16 will be double-vaccinated today,” Mr. Morrison stated.
“That will be another massive breakthrough for Australia.” h
National vaccination rates for people that have had two jabs are currently at 79.1 percent as per 9 News so at least 88.9 percent of Australians over the age of 16 have now had at least one dose.
ABC News also confirms that under the national plan, once the national average and an individual state or territory’s vaccination rate finally reaches 80 percent, that state or territory can move to the “Consolidation Phase”.
This phase includes minimal ongoing restrictions, such as tight social distancing measures in indoor spaces, highly targeted lockdowns will only apply to specific areas or populations only, rather than city or statewide lockdowns. The cap on returning vaccinated Australians will also be abolished, restrictions on outbound travel will be lifted, and the cap for students and other visa holders will increase.
