Elon Musk Pledges $US6 billion To UN World Food Programme If They Can Prove It’ll End World Hunger

Elon Musk is currently the world’s richest person so he’s got money to burn and he says he will donate $6 billion USD to the UN’s initiative to address world hunger if they can meet his terms.

ABC confirms that David Beasley, the head of the UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) has been reaching out to the world’s wealthiest people and asking them to donate on a “one-time basis” to assist with food shortages affecting millions of people all over the world.

Mr. Beasley told CNN that if the world’s billionaires could give a combined ”$6 billion to help 42 million people” that’s a massive help because these people are “literally going to die if we don’t reach them.”

Tesla and SpaceX CEO, Mr. Musk responded to Mr. Beasley’s statement and said that if WFP could provide details on exactly how $6 billion USD would “solve world hunger” he is willing to make the sizeable donation.

“If WFP can describe on this Twitter thread exactly how $6B will solve world hunger, I will sell Tesla stock right now and do it,” Mr. Musk said via his Twitter account.

Mr. Beasley responded by saying that he never claimed the donation would solve world hunger, instead, it would “prevent geopolitical instability, mass migration and save 42 million people on the brink of starvation.”

WFP’s website states that it urgently needs $6.6 billion USD in order to implement its “expertise, deep-field presence and operational scale to stop famine in its tracks, and steer people away from the edge of starvation.”
