“The Drover’s Wife: The Legend of Molly Johnson,” had its official premiere and gala screening at the Ritz Cinemas, Randwick last 28th of April 2022.
In attendance were Leah Purcell (Writer/Director/Producer/Molly Johnson) and cast members Rob Collins, Malachi Dower-Roberts, and Tammy McIntosh as well as producers Bain Stewart, David Jowsey, and Greer Simpkin.
The red carpet attendees also included VIP guests Narelda Jacobs (Moderator; 10 News, NITV); Miranda Tapsell (Top End Wedding, The Dry, The Sapphires); Susie Porter (Gold, Wentworth, The Monkeys Mask); and Rahel Romahn (Australian Gangster, Here Out West, Mr. Inbetween).
Directed by Leah Purcell, “The Drover’s Wife: The Legend of Molly Johnson” tells the classic tale of fierce family and protection. Molly Johnson’s husband is away droving sheep, leaving her alone to care for their four children in the remote Snowy Mountains. Despite being heavily pregnant, Molly keeps various threats, from nature and other people, at bay. But when Yadaka, an Aboriginal man on the run from white law enforcement, intrudes on the sanctuary she has carved out, the brutal hardships and secrets that have followed them both throughout their lives must be confronted.
