A United States coroner has confirmed that travel blogger Gabby Petito was reportedly strangled to death around three to four weeks before her body was discovered.

Last month, Ms. Petito vanished on a road trip while she was with her boyfriend, and eventually, she was found dead near a camping area in Wyoming.

Her disappearance sparked a massive media frenzy. Her fiancee, Brian Laundrie, is a person of interest in the case and was the subject of a nationwide search, who appears to have been involved in her death.

Teton County Coroner Brent Blue recently said in a news conference that Ms. Petito had died three to four weeks before her body was found on September 19.

Her body had been “outside in the wilderness for three to four weeks” before she was discovered on 20 September, the coroner said as per BBC.

The coroner did not confirm if a specific item was used to kill her, nor did he disclose any details of her toxicology report, but he did confirm that Ms. Petito was not pregnant at the time of her death.

The Teton County coroner’s ruling is a direct result of an initial post-mortem in September in which he had called the death a homicide.

“Unfortunately, this is only one of many deaths around the country of people who are involved in domestic violence and it’s unfortunate that these other deaths do not get as much coverage as this one,” Dr. Blue further said.
