NSW Government Updates Roadmap As The State Reaches 95 Percent Double Dose Vaccination Target

The NSW government recently revealed the new adjustments that would come into play after NSW reaches the 95 percent double-dose vaccination target or December 15, whichever comes first.

In NSW, so far, 94.4 percent of people aged 16 and over have had one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and case numbers have so far remained steady in NSW since lockdowns on Greater Sydney and major regional centres were lifted on October 11.

ABC confirms that Mandatory mask rules in NSW will not be mandatory anymore – under the new rules announced on Thursday, masks would only be mandatory at public transport, planes, airports as well as for unvaccinated front-of-house hospitality staff. They will still be strongly encouraged in situations where people cannot socially distance themselves though.

QR code check-ins will still remain at pubs, bars, registered clubs, and nightclubs as well as for indoor music festivals with more than 1,000 patrons. However, it will be scaled back to only high-risk settings such as hospitals, aged and disability care facilities, gyms, places of worship, funerals, and beauty venues.

ABC further confirms that proof of vaccination will no longer be required by Public Health Orders for the majority of the activities, although businesses can still require proof if they wish. People attending indoor music festivals with more than 1,000 people must still show their proof of vaccination.

There will no longer be density limits for businesses and venues, with the current one person per 2 square metre rule soon to be out the door.

Premier Dominic Perrottet confirmed NSW’s status as one of the most-vaccinated populations in the world had resulted in the further easing of restrictions.

“We’re leading the world when it comes to vaccinations and that is a tremendous achievement we can all be proud of because it has allowed us to return to normal as quickly and safely as possible,” Mr. Perrottet confirmed.

“The easing of these restrictions will allow people to get out and enjoy summer providing a boost for some of our hardest industries as we do everything we can to ensure we keep people safe as we learn to live with COVID.”
