Travis Scott Concert Results In At Least 8 Dead People & “Hundreds” Injured

Astroworld music festival resulted in at least eight people getting killed and “hundreds” getting injured after a massive crowd gathered for the festival began to move near the stage area, causing a mass panic according to the officials.

“People began to fall out, become unconscious, and it created additional panic,” Houston Fire Chief Samuel Peña told reporters as per Fox News.

“We had at least eight confirmed fatalities tonight and scores of individuals that were injured,” he further told reporters.

“The mass casualty incident was triggered at 9.38 this evening.”

Fox News further confirms that the incident occurred on Friday night local time, with various footage from social media showing numerous fans being treated by paramedics at the scene.

Fans apparently “began to compress” towards the front of the stage while Kylie Jenner’s rapper boyfriend Travis Scott was performing, causing massive chaos and casualties.

Prior to the mass panic, the footage was shared on Twitter showing Scott interrupting his set to request festival security to intervene.

“Security, somebody help, jump in there real quick,” the 29-year-old can be heard asking.

“Somebody jump in, come on, come on, security.”

“Our hearts are broken,” Lina Hidalgo, the Harris County judge, said as per Fox News. “People go to these events looking for a good time, a chance to unwind, to make memories. It’s not the kind of event you go to where you expect to find out about fatalities. … Obviously, this is the last place we want to be – especially after we’ve been through so much as a community. But we have incredibly capable law enforcement officials here.”

The Astroworld music festival was held at NRG Park. The crowd totaled around 50,000 people, the fire chief said and they all came to see Travis Scott and others perform.

The show eventually ended and Saturday’s scheduled Day 2 was canceled.

In a statement from Astroworld’s Twitter account, organisers said their “hearts are with the Astroworld Festival family tonight – especially those we lost and their loved ones” and they are “focused on supporting local officials”.
