GMA Pinoy TV has partnered with the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) to air the “Kanto Canta” grand finals, CCP’s first online band competition this January 16. This is part of GMA Pinoy TV’s #StrongerTogether campaign by supporting projects that promote culture, music, and arts.
This contest aims to promote various forms of Filipino musical works that incorporate traditional musical instruments to create the “Pinoy sound.” The top 15 local artists who participated in the competition came from different parts of the country including Kuntaw Mindanao, CC Kapagintaw Ethno-Rock Band, Abel, Baybayin, The Bratcave, Noel Bernaldo, Teatro de Sta. Luisa, Midnight Project, Far East Bronxx, 1:07 Productions, Musikanektica, Lakbay Santa Marcela, Up High, Letrang Norte, and Alex B. Lim.
Dr. Jaime C. Laya, Board of Trustees member, believes that the partnership between CCP and GMA Network, through its flagship international channel GMA Pinoy TV, is a huge step to sharing Filipino talent around the world.
“It’s an alliance of giants, the Cultural Center of the Philippines and GMA Network, Inc. The CCP’s Kanto Canta initiative discovered gems—bands, composers, poets and lyricists, singers, native musical instruments—in neighborhoods everywhere. Now, through cable, digital film, mobile and the latest in technology, GMA Network is transporting these jewels of Filipino talent from neighborhood street corners to the world stage. Guided by the titans of Philippine arts and broadcast media, no heights are unscalable for Pinoy talent,” Laya said.
GMA International First Vice President and Head of Operations Joseph T. Francia expressed his gratitude to CCP for collaborating with GMA Pinoy TV to air this historic event worldwide. This initiative reinforces the channel’s support to bring original Filipino music to viewers abroad.
“We are pleased that the premier staging of ‘Kanto Canta’ has found a home on GMA Pinoy TV. As part of our ‘StrongerTogether’ campaign, we join CCP in celebrating the renowned musical talent of the Filipino through this project.”
