‘Invasion Day’ Rallies Explode As Thousands March All Over Australia

 

Thousands of Aussies have taken to the streets in Sydney during Australia Day demanding for the date of the national holiday to be changed.

Despite the threat of the Omicron variant of COVID-19, mass gatherings were seen across the country as thousands of people took part in “Invasion Day” to acknowledge the legacy and culture of Australia’s Indigenous peoples.

According to 9 News, many First Nations people refer to January 26 as the ‘Day of Mourning’ or ‘Survival Day’.

Large crowds took part in an ‘Invasion Day – Day of Mourning’ rally at Town Hall in Sydney. A massive crowd also marched in Canberra down Commonwealth Avenue, there was a Brisbane rally in Queen’s Garden however, protests in Melbourne have been cancelled due to the current COVID-19 crisis.

Every year, more and more people are requesting to change the date of Australia Day to be more accommodating of all Australians.
