Judge Officially Terminates Britney Spears’ Conservatorship After 13 Years

Britney Spears has finally been released from the conservatorship that has ruled her life, career, and finances – it was placed on her in 2008 by her father, Jamie Spears.

New York Times confirms that Britney was officially released from the arrangement after Judge Penny said in September it was in Spears’ “best interest” to suspend her father from the restrictive legal arrangement that he established in 2008, controlling Britney’s personal, medical and financial affairs.

Spears celebrated her freedom on Instagram with the hashtag #FreedBritney, calling the decision the “best day ever.”

“I think I’m gonna cry the rest of the day,” Britney wrote.

Her attorney, Matthew Rosengart, also applauded the decision.

“Britney, as of today, is a free woman, and she’s an independent woman,” Rosengart told a cheering crowd as per News.com.au. “And the rest, with her support system, will be up to Britney.”

Spears’ lawyer Mathew Rosengart said the battle had been “a lot of hard work”.

“It’s been intense. I’m proud, Britney’s proud,” Mr. Rosengart said.

“I think the support of the #FreeBritney movement has been instrumental. To the extent that it allowed my firm to carry the ball across the finish line, I thank them as well.”
