American Politician Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Just Made A Powerful Fashion Statement At The Met Gala

Even with the world still feeling the devastating effects of COVID-19, Met Gala this year is no different. Affectionately referred to as “fashion’s biggest night out,”  celebrities, creatives, and industry heavyweights once again flocked to the event to raise funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

That said, one of the dresses at the Met Gala that has gone viral because of its very powerful message was worn by none other than Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, aka AOC showed up at the Met Gala in a beautiful white dress with bold, red lettering on the back that read “Tax the Rich.” She said she was simply drawing attention to what she called America’s unfair taxation system which reportedly favoured wealthy Americans and corporations.

Here’s what she wrote on her Instagram account about the dress:

“Proud to work with @aurorajames as a sustainably focused, Black woman immigrant designer who went from starting her dream @brothervellies at a flea market in Brooklyn to winning the @cfda against all odds – and then work together to kick open the doors at the Met.

“The time is now for childcare, healthcare, and climate action for all. Tax the Rich.

“And yes, BEFORE anybody starts wilding out – NYC elected officials are regularly invited to and attend the Met due to our responsibilities in overseeing our city’s cultural institutions that serve the public. I was one of several in attendance.”

A lot of people praised AOC for spreading her message of equal taxation directly to those who would be most affected by it. it was great to once again see AOC using her platform and influence to make a bold statement for a cause she truly cares about. Check out her dress below:
