NSW recorded 863 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8 pm last night.
Three new cases were acquired overseas, and seven previously reported cases have been excluded following further investigation. The total number of cases in NSW since the beginning of the pandemic is 61,231.
Sadly, NSW Health is today reporting the deaths of fifteen people with COVID-19 – eight men and seven women.
Two people were in their 40s, two were in their 50s, four people were in their 60s, three people were in their 70s, one in their 80s, and three people were in their 90s.
A man in his 40s from western Sydney died at Nepean Hospital. He was not vaccinated and had underlying health conditions.
Two people from southwestern Sydney who died acquired their infections at Liverpool Hospital – a man in his 60s and a woman in her 90s.
Two people died at home. A man in his 40s from Lake Macquarie was not vaccinated and was receiving care in the community from Hunter New England Local Health District. He had underlying health conditions.
A woman in her 70s from Bateman’s Bay who died at home had received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine but had only received the second dose shortly before her death. She had underlying health conditions and was diagnosed with COVID-19 following her death.
Of the 863 locally acquired cases reported to 8pm last night, 227 are from South Western Sydney Local Health District (LHD), 187 are from Western Sydney LHD, 94 are from Illawarra Shoalhaven LHD, 80 are from South East Sydney LHD, 68 are from Sydney LHD, 55 are from Hunter New England LHD, 38 are from Northern Sydney LHD, 34 are from Nepean Blue Mountains LHD, 24 are from Western NSW LHD, 23 are from Central Coast LHD, 18 are from Southern NSW LHD, five are from Far West LHD, two are from Northern NSW LHD, three are in correctional settings, and five cases are yet to be assigned to an LHD.
From 11 October, two visitors per day aged 12 years and over will be permitted to visit an aged care facility if they are fully vaccinated.
