Independent Feature Film, Some Happy Day Coming Soon

Some Happy Day, an independent feature film will have its Australian Premiere at the Backlot Cinema Perth in November. Screenings will be followed by a Q&A with the cast and crew.

Tina, a homeless woman in desperate search of a better life, meets Frances, a social worker with troubles of her own. Over a single day, their lives interweave, revealing unsettling connections that lead to change and redemption.

Profoundly moving.
Some Happy Day lays bare the underbelly of Australian lives rarely seen.
It is brave and real and will have you in tears.
A triumph of filmmaking.
Tender, uplifting, and bravely honest.
Nikki GemmellAuthor, and Journalist.

Some Happy Day was made with – and in – the community in which the story is set,  with many of the background actors having lived experience of surviving without a home. The film was inspired by the director/writer Catherine Hill’s twenty years of working as a social worker with rough sleepers.

A sensitive, gritty portrayal of the shadows we all carry and the courage it takes
to find our way through.
Tim Costello AO

It is estimated that in Greater Perth, 1200 people are street homeless, with over 50 of these rough sleepers dying every year. 25-41% of this marginalised and forgotten population are First Nations Peoples.

Some Happy Day provides an authentic narrative that contextualises and challenges
the often generalised idea of what it’s like to be homeless.
A moving and painfully beautiful story that humanises homelessness.
Brave, authentic, and confronting, it’s a story that needed telling.
Tim Guest Entrepreneur and Philanthropist WA.

Some Happy Day has been accepted into international film festivals including the Female Eye Film Festival, 23rd Antipodean Film Festival in St Tropez, Toronto Independent Film Festival, and the Social Change Film Festival in Chicago.

The Backlot Perth will host exclusive screenings in Perth from 18 – 21 November. The cast and crew will participate in post-screening Q+A sessions.
