NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian Considers Home-Based Quarantine

At a recent media conference on September 17, 2021, NSW Premier Gladys Berjeklian announced that NSW is firming up arrangements for a 7-day home-based quarantine for fully vaccinated inbound travellers.

The initiative is welcomed by many as it means the fee of $3000 per person for hotel quarantine would no longer be a financial burden in addition to the cost of fares.

This follows the lifting of curfew for local government areas of concern and allowing some concessions for fully vaccinated individuals.

However, it was immediately announced that two more local government areas in regional NSW will go into a snap lockdown at 6 pm today.

The first was Glen Innes, northwest of Coffs Harbour, after some confusion yesterday for residents who were told they were getting locked down, and then weren’t.

The second was the Hilltops LGA in the NSW South-West Slopes after someone linked to the Young High School tested positive.

The trial will apparently run for four weeks, with the government already considering scaling up home quarantine for fully vaccinated travellers through November if the system proves to be successful.

Sydney Morning Herald confirms that the returning overseas travellers who have had two doses of a TGA-approved vaccine will be able to isolate for seven days at home instead of in a hotel, with the 175 pilot participants selected by health officials and police to include residents, non-Australian residents, as well as Qantas aircrew.
