Beauty Queen Spotlight: Meet Curves & Curls’ Kerrie Ann Monroe

Kerrie Ann Monroe is a 36-year-old beauty queen – she’s a mother of 5 and a proud Darkinjung Aboriginal Woman. She’s an indigenous artist and hairdresser, and she’s a body-positive plus-size woman who’s proud of her curves.

She escaped a 13-year physically and emotionally draining sexual abusive marriage and fought for sole custody of her children. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, Diastasis Recti, and rotator cuff syndrome. Last year her weight gain was really getting out of control, but she was fortunate enough to have the support of her new fiance – she had gastric sleeve surgery in November 2020 which eventually saved her life.

Although she still suffers from anxiety and depression as a direct result of her Domestic Violence Marriage and Childhood Sexual Abuse – entering into a pageant became therapeutic for her which made her realise she has worth and that she’s beautiful. She believes she has a voice and she’s finally speaking up about domestic violence and sexual abuse to encourage others to stand up. She believes she’s a “survivor and not a victim anymore.”
